שגיאת לואה ביחידה יחידה:תבנית_מידע בשורה 261: תבנית סופר ריקה. רוברט (אורי) אלטר (באנגלית: Robert Bernard Alter; נולד ב-1935) הוא פרופסור יהודי-אמריקאי לספרות עברית והשוואתית באוניברסיטת קליפורניה בברקלי, שם הוא מלמד מאז 1967[1]. הוא חבר האקדמיה האמריקאית לאמנויות ולמדעים[2]. פרסם את תרגומם של כל ספרי התנ"ך בשנת 2018.

רוברט אלטר קיבל תואר ראשון באנגלית (אוניברסיטת קולומביה, 1957), ותואר שני (1958) ודוקטורט (1962) מאוניברסיטת הרווארד בספרות השוואתית. הוא החל את דרכו ככותב מאמרים בירחון החשוב קומנטרי (Commentary). הוא כתב עשרים ושלושה ספרים, ולאחרונה השלים את תרגומו של כל התנ"ך העברי. הוא מרצה בנושאים שונים מהמקרא ועד המודרניזם של קפקא והספרות העברית.
