רון מילוא (נולד ב-11 בפברואר 1975) הוא פרופסור במחלקה למדעי הצמח במכון ויצמן למדע ויושב ראש הוועד המנהל של האקדמיה הצעירה הישראלית.

פרסם עשרות מאמרים מדעיים ורשם חמישה פטנטים.

ביוגרפיה

רון מילוא נולד בחיפה. בוגר תיכון גלילי. בגיל 15 זכה באולימפיאדה הארצית לפיזיקה. הוא בעל תואר ראשון בהצטיינות במסגרת תוכנית תלפיות, תואר שני בהנדסת חשמל ותואר שלישי במעבדתו של פרופסור אורי אלון במכון ויצמן למדע. תחומי המחקר שלו הם: ביולוגיה מערכתית, מטבוליזם, ביולוגיה חישובית, אבולוציה, פוטוסינתזה וביולוגיה מולקולרית.

במעבדתו של מילוא במכון ויצמן למדע חוקרים את עקרונות הפעולה של רשתות אנרגיה ומטבוליזם, מתוך שאיפה לרתום את כלי המחקר של הביולוגיה המערכתית למען אתגרי הסביבה והקיימות. את יעילות הפוטוסינתזה חוקרים על ידי פירוקה לשלבים ומציאת צווארי הבקבוק והגורמים המגבילים בתהליך המרת פוטונים למולקולות של פחמימות על מנת להבין את האילוצים המעצבים את תכונות הפוטוסינתזה ואת המגבלות על יצרנותם המקסימלית של צמחים ויצורים פוטוסינתטיים אחרים. בנוסף, חוקרים את האפשרויות, הגבולות והאופטימאליות של חילוף החומרים של פחמן במטרה להבין את עקרונות העיצוב הבסיסיים שאליהם התכנסה האבולוציה וללמוד איך לשפר את היכולת לייצר מזון ודלק ביתר יעילות, לשמר מים ולהשתמש בחנקן. כמו כן, מפתחים במעבדה BioNumbers, בסיס נתונים של מספרים ביולוגים שימושיים לחוקרים ולציבור הרחב. מודלים של אופטימליות מסייעים לבחינת הרעיונות הנוגעים לשקלול התמורות והכוחות הדומיננטיים של האבולוציה.

בשנת 2016 נבחר לכהן כיושב ראש הוועד המנהל של האקדמיה הצעירה הישראלית.[1]
