רוברט "בוב" ניקולס (Robert "Bob" Nicholls) הוא אמן ומאייר בריטי שמתמחה באמנות פלאונטולוגית.

ביוגרפיה

הוא גדל בגלוסטרשייר באנגליה וכיום חי בבריסטול עם אשתו ובנותיו. הוא החל החל לצייר בעלי חיים פרה-היסטוריים בגיל בית ספר ומגיל צעיר החליט להיות אמן פלאונטולוגי. תשוקתו לטבע, פלאונטולוגיה ואמנות נתנו לו השראה במהלך לימודיו האקדמיים באוניברסיטת מרכז אנגליה, בהם השלים תואר ראשון באמנות ותקשורת חזותית. הוא השלים גם תואר שני בנושא וחיבר תזות שעסקו באיור דינוזאורים.

יצירותיו

ב-1999 ייסד ניקולס חברה משלו בשם Paleocreations. מטה החברה נמצא בבריסטול, הממלכה המאוחדת. החברה מתמחה ביצירת שחזורים דו-ממדיים (איורים וציורים) ותלת-ממדיים (פסלים ודגמים) של בעלי-חיים פרה-היסטוריים (ובפרט דינוזאורים), צמחים וסביבות. שחזור בעלי החיים נעשה מהתחלה על ידי למידת המאובנים ושחזור השלד, ואז הוספת אנטומיה פנימית, שרירים ולבסוף כסות חיצונית (עור, נוצות או פרווה). היצירות משמשות הן לתצוגת קבע והן לתצוגה זמנית. עבודותיו של ניקולס מוצגות כיום בכמעט 50 מוזיאוני טבע, מכוני מחקר ואקווריומים ברחבי אירופה, אסיה, אוסטרליה ואמריקה הצפונית, בהם המוזיאון להיסטוריה של הטבע בלונדון, המוזיאון הלאומי בוויילס, אוניברסיטת קיימברידג' ועוד. הוא הפיק עבודות עבור למעלה מ-40 ספרים על ידיעת הטבע ואף יצר עבודות עבור מפיקי ה-BBC, נשיונל גאוגרפיק ואייקון פילמס. ב-2025 החל בעיצוב דגמי אספנות עבור Everything Dinosaur, חנות בבריטניה המתמחה בדגמי דינוזאורים. הוא אמן ידוע בקהילה הפלאונטולוגית ומרבה להתראיין. הוא אף תרם למספר מאמרים מדעיים.
